PROFILE
Ali Ross Design is a boutique interior design studio based in Melbourne. The studio specialises in residential and commercial interior design and has completed projects across the globe from Australia to California.

Ali is the principal designer and has 15 years of experience with leading interior designers. Ali started her career with Nexus Designs here in Melbourne in 2001 and in 2005 she moved to Sydney to work with Iain Halliday at BKH. Most recently and prior to establishing Ali Ross Design in 2009, Ali worked as a senior designer with Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates (ODADA) in San Francisco, one of the leading North American interior architecture firms focused on delivering an elite level of turn-key service for high net worth clients.

Her expertise include spacial planning, design and documentation for construction, project management, furniture, lighting and artwork selection.

PHILOSOPHY
Strong client designer relations are established very early on and they are fostered throughout the design process. This is key to her success. It not only enables Ali to satisfy requirements with confidence but allows clients to actually enjoy the process.

Her work communicates simply and her approach is pragmatic with a clear emphasis on function and the use of natural and lasting materials. As a mother of two very busy and messy little boys, Ali understands the reality of family living. She doesn’t believe however that families need to compromise on quality and beauty simply because they have children.

Ali is fascinated by the power of design, the response it evokes and the way a well resolved space promotes wellbeing. From the feel of a material underfoot to the way a wardrobe is meticulously designed to suit the needs of the individual – it is the considered and subtle elements that bring individuality to each project and allow a home to feel special.

Her aesthetic has been influenced by her experience living in Denmark, Japan and London in her early twenties. Design visionaries such as Arne Jacobsen, Tadao Ando, Ilse Crawford and Piet Boon continue to inspire her today.
